INFLUSSI FRANCO BORGOGNONI IN PIEMONTE TRA XIV e XV SECOLO …. “A Frugarolo vediamo compiuto il mutamento più significativo del costume medievale iniziato intorno al 1340, che vede da una parte la nascita del costume corto maschile, che per la prima volta rispetto al passato si differenzia nettamente da quello femminile, e dall’altra il sorgere di una nuova concezione dell’abito che va ad evidenziare le forme del corpo. L’accorciarsi della veste maschile provoca la netta divisione della figura: il busto, sapientemente enfatizzato tramite cuciture e imbottiture strategiche, e le gambe, fasciate da calze-braghe aderentissime. Questo nuovo indirizzo della moda viene inizialmente additato dai cronisti dell’epoca come indecente e scandaloso: si assiste infatti ad una vera e propria “sessualizzazione” della veste e alla sua relativa demonizzazione.

On the one hand, this saw the birth of the short male costume, which for the first time in the past was clearly different from the female costume, and on the other hand, the rise of a new concept of dress that highlighted the body’s shape. The shortening of men’s clothing causes a clear division of the figure: the bust, cleverly emphasized through seams and strategic padding, and the legs, wrapped in stocking-bags tight. This new direction of fashion was initially pointed out by the chroniclers of the time as indecent and scandalous: there is in fact a real “sexualization” of the dress and its relative demonization.
