LA MODA AI TEMPI DI GIACOMO GROSSO “ I ritratti femminili di Giacomo Grosso instaurano un dialogo prezioso con la moda , guidandoci attraverso i cambiamenti più significativi che hanno caratterizzato l’eleganza femminile tra l’ultimo quarto dell’Ottocento e gli anni Trenta del secolo successivo. Sul chiudersi del XIX secolo gli abiti iniziano ad abbandonare quelle sottostrutture, come la “tournure”, che mascheravano la fisicità naturale – Figure nella neve e Ritratto di Carola Reduzzi– per avviarsi verso una nuova e altrettanto artificiosa trasformazione: la cosiddetta linea “esse” che vede l’accentuarsi delle curve del seno e dei fianchi e l’assottigliarsi all’estremo del punto vita tramite l’uso di busti molto costrittivi.
“Giacomo Grosso’s female portraits establish a valuable dialogue with fashion, guiding us through the most significant changes that characterized female elegance between the last quarter of the nineteenth century and the 1930s. Towards the end of the 19th century, clothes began to abandon those substructures, such as the “tournure”, that masked natural physicality – Figures in the Snow and Portrait of Carola Reduzzi – to move towards a new and equally artificial transformation: the so-called “esse” line, which saw the accentuation of the curves of the breasts and hips and the thinning of the waistline through the use of very constrictive corsets.
